Nestled at the base of the majestic Livingstone Mountain Range in
southwestern Alberta is a working cattle ranch called "Lonesome Pine
Ranch." Southwestern Alberta is well known as "Cowboy Country"
and "Cowboy Paradise." It is where the prairies rise up to meet the
rolling foothills and continue on to the pristine mountains. Here you may find
cowboys on cattle drives and round-ups, branding, rodeoing, or going for a
leisurely horseback ride. The breath-taking scenery is second to none for this
ranching area as well as an abundance of wild life that you may catch a glimpse
of.
Lonesome Pine Ranch is a cow/calf operation with yearlings that are trailed
to the near-by Bow Crow Forest reserve for summer months. Sierra West Cabins and
Ranch Vacations is a division of Lonesome Pine Ranch and has two log cabins set
on Todd Creek. One is the original log homestead from 1905 and the other is a
newly built log cabin. Both have full amenities complete with corals
and horse shelters. A third cabin will be completed in 2008.
While at Sierra West, guests can experience
various activities of the Alberta Cowboy’s way of life from trail riding to
cattle drives and overnight pack trips all within the breath taking scenery of
the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy the fresh mountain streams, big blue skies and the
unending scenery. Roping and riding enthusiasts can enjoy the large outdoor
arena. whether you choose to
bring your own horse and tack or use theirs. Cattle and lessons available on
request.
